Arts and Science Camp
For those campers who have a keen interest in music, art and science, the following one week camps are just for you! Campers have an opportunity to concentrate and master one area for half a day. For diversity and recreation, campers will also participate in other traditional camp activities throughout the week including recreational swimming, special unit wide and camp wide theme events, hiking, team sports, beach time, crafts, and more.
Amazing Music, Arts & Science Programs!
Art Explorers (Weeks 1, 3, 5, 7 & 9)
For the creative and imaginative campers, there are a wide variety of fun and extensive craft activities that campers get to take part in, from tie-dying t-shirts, clay works, boondoggle, mask making, woodcrafts, papier mache and more. Campers take home all their craft creations as a reminder of their fun summer camp experience.
Babysitting Course (Weeks 5 & 9)
What every parent wants in a safe and responsible babysitter! Learn to care for children and infants, be a good leader and role model, handle emergencies such as injuries, illnesses and household accidents and learn age appropriate games and activities. All this can be easy and fun with the Red Cross Babysitting Course. Each course graduate will receive a manual and certificate.
Dance (Weeks 3, 6 & 8)
Our summer dance program focuses on developing each dancer’s technique in jazz, modern and hip-hop. Classes are geared towards learning choreography and concentrate on improving each dancer’s style, stage presence and confidence.
Forensic Science – CSI (Weeks 2 & 6)
Here is your chance to become a crime scene investigator, explore mock crime scenes, collect evidence and uncover hidden clues. Our staff will set up several mock crime scenes, and campers will use their skills to examine and interpret the clues and data found at the scene.
Girls “Glam” Club (Weeks 2, 4, 6 & 8)
During this one week program, girls have an opportunity to participate in many fun and creative artsy activities, such as scrapbooking, making soap & lip gloss, tie-dying t-shirts, papier mache, clay works, boondoggle and creating beautiful beaded jewellery. Girls also get to indulge and learn how to do their own manicures.
Guitar (Week 6)……….NEW!
Learn to play guitar this summer with the Whitby School of Music. Guitar enthusiasts learn about chords, picking, strumming, scales and enhance their rhythm knowledge. Guitars provided by the camp.
Magic (Weeks 2 & 7)……….NEW!
A fantastic introduction to magic and the art of illusion. Campers will learn tricks that will “WOW” their friends and family.
Multimedia & Computers (Weeks 1, 4 & 8)
This is a perfect program for campers who are really interested in computers and digital technologies. Taught by iCompute Learning Centre Inc., campers receive workshops in digital photography, digital video, digital story & music creation, and comic creation.
Musical Theatre (Weeks 2 & 7)……….NEW!
This year the Whitby School of Music opens its stage to the Best of Broadway. Campers learn to sing Broadway hits, as well as acting, staging, dancing and the excitement and magic of theatre.
Rocketry (Weeks 1, 5 & 9)
Fascinated with space! Rocket camp is a great hands-on program for rocket engineers. Topics such as fuel, flight, aerodynamics, and living in space will be covered in addition to other fascinating areas. Campers will also learn the fundamentals of designing and building rockets. Each camper will have an opportunity to design, build and paint their own rocket and launch it at the end of each week.
Violin (Week 4)
Learn to play the violin this summer with the Whitby School of Music. Campers learn the fundamentals, including violin placement, rhythm, balance, grip and performing. Violins are provided by the camp.
Yoga & Pilates (Weeks 3 & 7)
Yoga and pilates are great ways to help kids make the body and mind connection. Quality, fun and inspiring instruction is provided by East Village Yoga. The emphasis of the classes is on stretching, breathing, strength, flexibility, poise, and non-competition!
